CENTRAL FINDING

The market is repricing an oil–rupee–rates shock, not an economy-wide earnings collapse.

India's market is falling because three prices are moving against it at once: oil has raised the import and inflation bill, the rupee has weakened toward 96 per dollar, and global interest rates have lifted the return investors can earn outside India. Foreign selling then presses the most liquid index stocks, while expensive pockets of the broader market lose their valuation cushion. The central finding is not that Indian earnings have collapsed. NIFTY 50 Q1 FY27 profit still rose 11% and beat estimates. The market is forcing a lower price on those earnings until oil, currency and funding uncertainty become measurable again.
